WHAM'S GIFT SHOP FEATURED ARTIST: MARTY WOLFE

Artist Marty Wolfe
Marty born and raised on a farm in New Jersey and as a young girl, she began drawing on a roll of brown paper that her mother had spread out down the hallway. Marty kept on drawing the things she was inspired by. She drew the clouds, trees, sky, barns, and animals, always wanting to create the beautiful world she was seeing in her mind’s eye. As time went on, her art just kept getting better and better.
After setting our into the world as an adult, Marty became a house painter, A man approached her asking to see her landscape paintings. The man chose five paintings and purchased them and that was when Marty realized that creating her own images and selling them was becoming a way of life for her.
Marty loves to experiment and her many eclectic creations include mosaics, paintings, sculpture, portraits of people and animals, wooden tables from indigenous wood and wall hangings made of copper and stained glass. Marty is also a wall mural artist and has designed and painted many murals to include a group project painting all four corners and an intersection in downtown Peoria, Arizona. She has completed many commissions for private individuals who wanted to brighten up the dull concrete walls in their back yard.
Marty has mentored other artist and is an excellent teacher. She has taught groups of adaptive and dementia folks where her projects have given these people a “voice” to express how they feel. For several years Marty has been in charge of teaching art classes for veterans. Working with these men and women has inspired her to create many military focused pieces of art. Marty also teaches Paint and Sip parties for 30 to 35 adults.
Marty has lived in Arizona for over 35 years. After retiring she became a full-time artist. Marty is a member of the WHAM Community Art Center where she has an art studio. She is also the building manager for WHAM.
Artist statement Marty Wolfe
“I see it in my head, and I have to create it. My art comes from my heart and I try to create art that people will love.” Marty creates from a place of “unknown knowing”. She sees it, feels it, thinks about it, and then just creates it.
