"ORAL HISTORY"
At WHAM, we understand the power of storytelling and its ability to bring people together. This Oral History Series is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the art of spoken word and to experience history in a whole new way. The premier showing will feature the amazing stories produced by Vicki Hunt and filmed and edited by Nicholas Serpa.
Vicki Hunt, a former city council member of Peoria, will be sharing these amazing stories with us. After serving on the Peoria City Council for sixteen years and retiring in January, Vicki is excited to be a part of WHAM's premier showing of the first three stories in our Oral History Series. Our aim is to inspire and entertain our viewers, and we can't wait for you to experience it!
The next set of three oral histories will be presented Oct. 18, in the Calderwood Room of the Peoria Community Center. 7-9 p.m.
Presenters at this event will be Martha Varney Dennis, sharing her family’s homesteading adventure in the early 1900s on the Cactus and Greenwood properties that were later to be named Varney Tract.
Other speakers will include Manuel and Jan Delgado who grew up in Varney and have made their lives in Peoria.
The third story will be told by Elmer Cobos, one of eight children with deep roots growing up in Peoria.
